Editor's Note

Dear readers,

You’ve probably seen those movies where robots take over the world or perhaps develop minds of their own. In our digital age, artificial intelligence has not overthrown humanity yet but is definitely a large part of our lives through technology like ChatGPT. It’s everywhere, from your phone's face ID to algorithms predicting what you’ll watch next (yes, YouTube; I’ll always click on the video with Kim Taehyung in it). The question everyone is asking is, are they our friend or foe?

In our newest addition, we tackle topics related to this growing phenomenon. Have you ever been tricked by deepfakes online? We discuss how deepfakes can turn you into your favorite superstar or a wanted criminal (talk about mixed reviews). What about jobs? What if AI demonstrated skills that we can’t do? Will artificial intelligence take our place in the workforce?  Speaking of doing things humans can do, can AI show empathy? And of course, there’s Hollywood, where all of us had first been introduced to AI long before ChatGPT hit our browsers.

AI is not just science fiction anymore—it's a reality. As long as AI can’t make themselves a cup of coffee, we’re safe (for now). So get comfortable and join us as we explore the different aspects of AI in our modern world.
