Why Do Haters Hate?
Written by: Maddison Kurniawan

Currently, it is a rather uncomplicated task to instantly spot a hate comment on any platform, one that may be extremely captious, awfully discourteous, or somewhat jokingly comical. There are instances where one’s comment section might just be filled with those particular daunting comments, especially in content usually posted by smaller accounts. However, bigger accounts, like celebrity accounts, can get even more concerning than they already are.

People typically post hateful comments with the belief that celebrities are so full of themselves. Despite their significant success, some showcase it in a flawed way. On the other hand, several get engaged in this behavior for no evident reason. An infamous example of a similar case is Taylor Swift. She has been badmouthed by millions, mainly men, who cannot seem to embrace her massive success.

However, if we zoom into the particular Korean pop industry, there are masses of people hating every day to share shameful comments. There is also a myriad of people who hate other bands to seek validation from their favorite ones, as well as aiming for other celebrities to have dating rumors about their treasured artists. Hate from people arises mainly from the fandom rather than the celebrities in this case.

Aside from that, some people agree that some celebrities have perpetrated disagreeable actions such as pedophilia, sexual assault, drug dealing, sharing negativity on platforms, and even insulting religions. People’s hate towards them is no better, for they take it too far by sending them death threats. In present times, they tend to set expectations for these celebrities and expect them to fulfill every one of them.

Hate is part of today’s world, something everyone is starting to normalize. It ruins a positive mentality and even futures; when hate is taken too personally, it leads to awful situations as heavy as suicide. Celebrities are humans like every one of us, and despite all our flaws, hate must never serve as a tool to direct us to a better world.
