How Social Media Influences Pop Culture

The term pop culture, which is defined as a modern popular culture that is spread by social media and directed mostly towards Gen Z, originated in the 1920s and evolved rapidly over the years. Recently, the prevalent impact of social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter has significantly changed the context of pop culture.
In this generation, social media has become an inseparable part of our daily lives, and the increasing number of influencers on social media platforms has had a significant impact on the trends of pop culture. These platforms serve as a virtual stage to showcase these influencers' lifestyles, opinions, and talents. From fashion trends to viral challenges, social media influencers have shaped pop culture in a different way than it was before.
One of the examples of social media’s influence on pop culture is the new fashion trends and brand deals. Fashion bloggers usually use their everyday outfits and looks to create a new trend for the generation that is quickly adopted by many people. The platforms now also serve as a new way for brands to advertise their products, which is a very different approach from traditional marketing.
Other industries that are highly influenced by social media are entertainment and music. As social media platforms have brought many songs to fame by creating dance challenges or viral content, many individuals have taken advantage of this to launch their music on these platforms.
In conclusion, although pop culture has always been evolving and changing rapidly throughout the years, its main purpose of raising awareness regarding social issues remains the same regardless of trends.
