Solo Travel in the Holiday Season
Written by: Canika Zhu

Solo travel has become increasingly popular in recent years, indicating a cultural shift in how people choose to explore the world. Aside from spending the holidays traveling around the world with partners, friends, or family, solo traveling can also be an option to enhance self-discovery and give the younger generations a sense of independence.

Although it may sound scary, solo travel may actually help you get out of your comfort zone. Being able to do whatever you want without pressure from your friends or family can give you the opportunity to try new things and bond with people of different cultural backgrounds. Time spent alone provides you with the space to experience new activities without any distractions, creating a thrilling experience.

Another advantage of solo traveling is that it provides individuals with a good work-life balance. Solo trips offer a break from the normal routine, allowing you the time to relax and enjoy the holidays without any pressure from your peers. Additionally, it can also act as a good time to reflect on your actions and reset your mind for a fresh start.

Personal interests and preferences may also be an appealing factor to those interested in solo traveling. As an individual may have different interests from their family or friends, it may be hard to please everyone when planning a trip together. By traveling alone, you can have the flexibility to craft unique experiences that are interesting to you, such as exploring niche destinations or engaging in specific activities that you like.

Time spent alone while traveling allows you to have time to conduct self-discovery of your interests. Being alone in a new environment can allow you to better understand your strengths and weaknesses, as well as your personal preferences. Additionally, it can also foster a sense of independence and empowerment for the younger generations.

Lastly, solo traveling allows individuals to better experience the culture of the destination they have chosen. It encourages people to engage deeper in the local cultures as well as meet new people of local residency. Solo travelers can have better opportunities in terms of trying local delicacies and activities, as well as a better understanding of the place.

In conclusion, although the holiday season may be a good time for family bonding, it is important to always make time for yourself to act as a relaxing time away from all the responsibilities at school or work. Solo traveling can be one of the solutions for some individuals, but there are still many other options out there to relax and reduce stress.
